Learning Outside the Classroom

At The Heights, Burnley we are committed to ensuring that all our pupils have the opportunity to access Learning Outside the Classroom activities. Our Learning Outside the Classroom programme raises our pupils’ achievement through an organised, powerful approach to learning in which direct experience is of prime importance.

It is not only about what our pupils learn, but about how and where they learn. It is about improving pupils’ understanding, skills, values, personal and social development which acts as the way to develop their motivation to learn. This is achieved through giving our young people real life experiences and practical, hands-on activities which enable them to acquire those key skills.

At The Heights, Burnley there is a stated commitment to developing inclusive frequent, continuous and progressive LOtC for all pupils, building on previous learning rather than activity  which happens in isolation and increasing the level of challenge over time. A genuine commitment to fully inclusive LOtC is being applied and plans are in place to ensure that every pupil has access to meaningful frequent, continuous and progressive LOtC activities.

“We are passionate about making a difference, removing challenges to learning, having a positive impact, delivering high quality teaching and learning, and achievement for all.”

Susannah Berry, Headteacher
